The emerging field of service design combines product design and interaction design for designing the experience of and the interface of services. The service design uses a customer journey map to help test and design interfaces as part of their tools and methods. The customer journey map illustrates how the customer perceives and experiences te interface along their time axis. The axis of service solutions and feels along the customer journey are qualitatively measured. Service blueprinting allows for quantitative descriptions of critical service elements such as time, logical sequence of actions and processes. It also divides front stage and backstage actions. Front stage actions are events that happen in the time and place of the interactions. Backstage are events that happen out of the visibility of users but are fundamental for the delivery of the service. Additionally, ideation, context mapping and participatory design are used t recral the users’ conscious and latent needs, experience and hopes or expectations. This method uses participation with an educated tutor or conductor to guage usability. This is called service prototyping. In my personal experience using these service design methods and tools would be useful when designing a website for another class. The website must be easy to use and complete a specific task. A blueprint of how long it takes to complete each task would allow me to quantitate this. Additionally prototyping, by watching a user use the website would allow me to ease of usability or correct unclear or poor placement of items. It would allow others (other than the creator) correctly use the website. This would increase the likelihood that the marker or professor would be able to quickly and effectively look at my website and mark my website. Poor navigation or the inability to access the correct information could yield a poor mark.
